Moves both cut lines to the first and last real sound inside the selection, so dead air at the ends goes away.

Browsers cannot encode AAC or Opus, so the outputs are MP3 and WAV. The original file is never changed.

Good to know

Remove mode cuts the middle: select an intro, an advert or a mistake and export everything around it as one file.

Snap finds the real edges: recordings often start and end with seconds of silence. One click moves the cut lines to where the sound actually begins and ends.

The result is measured, not promised: every export is decoded back and timed before the download appears, so the length on screen is the length of the file.

How it works

Decoded once, cut exactly where you put the lines

Your browser decodes the file into raw sound, the same sound the waveform is drawn from. Exporting copies the samples between your cut lines (or outside them, in Remove mode), applies the fades to the first and last samples, and encodes the result on your device. Because the cut is made on decoded samples, it lands at the exact times you set, not at the nearest compression frame.

Output guide

MP3 or WAV?

MP3 encoding uses lamejs, a JavaScript port of the LAME encoder (LGPL), loaded only when you export an MP3.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The file is decoded and trimmed inside your browser, on your device. The counter on this page stays at Uploaded: 0 because nothing leaves the device. Load the page, turn off your connection, and trim anyway to prove it.

What is the difference between Keep and Remove?

Keep exports only the part inside the selection. Remove exports everything except the selection, which is the quick way to cut an intro, an advert or a long pause out of the middle of a recording. The fades and the output format apply the same way in both.

Which files can I trim, and what comes out?

You can add any audio your browser can play: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, Opus and FLAC in most browsers. The trimmed file is saved as MP3 (you pick the bitrate) or WAV. Browsers cannot encode AAC or Opus files, so those are never offered as outputs.

How long can the recording be?

Trimming works on the decoded audio held in memory, so very long files depend on your device. MP3 output is capped at 30 minutes of trimmed audio, because encoding happens on your device. WAV output has no time cap; the page shows the file size before you download.

What do the fades do?

A fade in raises the volume smoothly from silence at the start of the trimmed file, and a fade out lowers it at the end. Half a second hides most clicks and abrupt cuts; two to five seconds suits music. Fades are part of the exported file, not just the preview.

How precise is the cut?

Zoom in until the ruler shows tenths of a second, drag the orange cut lines, nudge them with the arrow keys in 0.1 second steps, or type the start and end times. Snap to silent edges finds the first and last actual sound inside your selection and moves the cut lines to them.
