How it works
Canvas cuts, exact coverage
Your image is drawn onto canvas pieces, one per slice. Rows divide the height evenly and columns divide the width evenly. When the size does not divide evenly, the leftover pixels go to the first pieces, one extra pixel each, so every original pixel lands in exactly one piece: nothing lost, nothing doubled.
PNG pieces copy the pixels exactly. JPEG pieces re-encode at quality 0.92, which is slightly smaller with a small quality cost, and drops transparency: a transparent area becomes solid. If your image has transparency, pick PNG.
Guide
What splits are for
- Carousel grids: split one wide image into columns, post them in order, and the feed shows one continuous picture.
- Posters and prints: split a large image into a grid, print each piece, and tile them on a wall.
- Smaller uploads: a piece is smaller than the whole, so it fits size limits that the original misses.
- Download all: some browsers block several automatic downloads at once. If Download all only saves the first piece, use the Download link under each piece.
Questions
Does splitting change the quality?
For PNG pieces, no: the pixels are copied exactly. For JPEG pieces, there is a small loss, because JPEG re-encodes at quality 0.92. Pick PNG when quality matters most.
Can I split into unequal parts?
Not in this version. Every split is equal: rows divide the height evenly, columns divide the width evenly, and any leftover pixels go to the first pieces so nothing is lost or doubled.
Is there a size limit?
No limit is imposed here, but very large images use a lot of browser memory, since every piece is held as a canvas until you download it. If a huge image feels slow, split it on a desktop browser.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Splitting runs in your browser with canvas. The image never leaves your device.
