What a photo can reveal

Some social networks strip this data when you upload. The originals in your camera roll, cloud backups, email and file shares keep it all.

How it works

The picture is never touched

The check reads the data blocks stored inside the file (EXIF in JPEG and WebP, text and EXIF chunks in PNG) and lists what it finds. Cleaning rebuilds the same file without those blocks: the picture data is copied byte for byte, so the image cannot change or lose quality. All of it happens on this device.

Questions

What hidden data does a photo carry?

Most phone and camera photos carry EXIF metadata: the GPS coordinates of where the shot was taken, the date and time, the device make and model, camera settings, and sometimes the editing software or the photographer's name. It is stored inside the file and invisible in the picture itself.

Does removing metadata change the photo?

No. This tool removes only the metadata blocks inside the file. The image data is copied across untouched, so the cleaned photo looks identical and keeps the same dimensions. The file usually gets slightly smaller.

Should I strip metadata from every photo?

Strip it when you share photos publicly or with people you do not know, especially photos taken at home. Platforms vary: some social networks remove metadata when you upload, but the originals in your camera roll and cloud backups keep it, and forums, email and file shares usually pass it through untouched.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The checking and cleaning happen in your browser, on your device. You can prove it: load this page, turn off your connection, and check a photo anyway.
