Passport Photo Maker

Frame your photo to the exact size a portal or exam asks for, with the measured proof printed next to the requirement. Your photo is never uploaded.

File target

The portal file is compressed to land inside this window. Exam windows change per notification; edit them to match yours.

Rotation is for tilted shots. A tilt beyond about 8 degrees is usually a retake, not a fix.

A plain wall behind you and even light on your face give the cleanest result. JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP all work.

We can't check: glasses off, eyes open, mouth closed, photo taken in the last 6 months. A quick look before you submit is worth it.

Proof, measured from the exported file

  • Add a photo and this panel measures the actual portal file: size, KB, face size, background and DPI.

How it works

Measured, not promised

When you add a photo, a small face-detection model that runs on your device finds the face and frames the crop to the preset you picked: pixel size, face size and eye position are worked out from the face's landmarks, and the crown line stays draggable because a face box ends at the hairline, not the top of the skull. The portal file is then encoded to land inside the preset's KB window, aiming at the middle. Finally the tool re-opens the file it just made and measures it (dimensions, KB, background colour sampled across the top of the frame, DPI written in the file) and prints those numbers in the proof panel. If a reading falls outside the preset, the row says so and names the fix. The background swap, when on, uses the same on-device cut-out engine as the Background Remover.

Questions

What size should a Passport Seva photo be?

The online portal asks for 630 x 810 pixels, a JPEG between 10 KB and 250 KB, on a plain white background, with the face filling 80 to 85 percent of the height. The 2 x 2 inch size you may have seen is for printed applications and OCI, not the online upload; this tool carries both as separate presets. Specs last checked October 2026; portals change their rules, so check yours before you submit.

Can this tool guarantee my photo will be accepted?

No tool can. Acceptance also depends on things software cannot judge: glasses, expression, shadows, how recent the photo is. What this tool does is measure the parts a portal checks mechanically (pixel size, file size, face size, background colour) and print the measured values next to the required ones in the proof panel, so you can see for yourself before you submit.

Is my photo uploaded for face detection?

No. Face detection runs on your device using a small model (about 13 MB with its shared runtime) that downloads to your browser once and is kept in its cache. Your photo never leaves the device; load this page, turn off your internet, and the tool still works.

Why does the file have a minimum size in KB?

Portals reject files that are too small as well as too large: Passport Seva's floor is 10 KB and SSC's is 20 KB. This tool aims for the middle of your preset's window. If a photo cannot reach the floor even at full quality (a tiny or very plain image), it exports at the best quality it can and tells you plainly, rather than padding the file with junk data.

Should I use the background swap?

Only if your photo's background is not already plain. Portals such as the UK passport service ask for an unedited photo, and a replaced background makes the photo an edited one, so the UK and Schengen presets leave the swap off and say why. If your photo already has a plain, evenly lit background, leave the swap off: a natural background passes more reliably than an edited one.

What if no face is found in my photo?

The tool switches to manual framing with the same guide overlay: drag to position, use the zoom slider, and drag the crown line to the top of the head. Every preset and export works in manual mode.
